How much water do i need to drink each day?
How much water do I need to drink?
Water is essential for life. If you become dehydrated (thirst is the 1st symptom of already being dehydrated!) your body does not function as well as it should.
If you don’t drink enough water:
You can feel sluggish, tired, have poor digestion, headaches, high blood pressure, light headedness, visual disturbances, dark potent urine, and the list goes on and on and on……
If you drink slightly too much water:
You are not at risk of health problems if you drink slightly too much water each day, you will just have to go to the toilet more regularly!
How much do I need?
There is much research on this topic and quite a considerable amount of conflicting information.
This is because each individual person has slightly different hydration requirements depending on their age, height weight, activity levels, exercise and environment.
As a General Rule
Adults need to replace about 2-3 litres of fluid a day through food and drink.
You may need more if you:
Do regular exercise and sweat
Work in an air-conditioned environment where the air is very dry
Drink coffee, alcohol, or take any other diuretics
Work in a hot environment
Pregnant or are breast feeding.
