Headaches can range from mild and occasional to frequent and debilitating. They may affect concentration, work, sleep, and overall quality of life, and are often linked to issues in the neck, upper spine, posture, or muscle tension.
At Dr Matt Breeds Chiropractic in Miranda, we take a thorough, individualised approach to headaches — focusing on identifying contributing factors and improving how your spine, muscles, and nervous system function together.

Your assessment
Your initial consultation allows us to understand why your headaches are occurring and whether chiropractic care is appropriate for you.
During your first visit, we will:
- Take a detailed history of your headache symptoms and general health
- Discuss headache patterns, triggers, and aggravating factors
- Perform a thorough musculoskeletal and neurological examination
- Assess the neck, upper back, posture, and movement patterns
- Carry out relevant orthopaedic and functional testing
- Refer for imaging (such as X-rays) if clinically appropriate
If suitable, treatment may begin during your first appointment.
Allow up to 60 minutes.
Common types of headaches we see
Headaches can present in different ways. Some common presentations we assess include:
- Tension-type headaches
- Headaches associated with neck stiffness or poor posture
- Cervicogenic headaches (originating from the neck)
- Desk or screen-related headaches
- Recurrent or ongoing headaches
- Headaches associated with muscle tension in the neck and shoulders
Proper assessment is essential to determine contributing factors before treatment begins.
Can chiropractic help with headaches?
Chiropractic care may help certain types of headaches, particularly when symptoms are related to:
- Joint restriction or reduced mobility in the neck or upper spine
- Muscle tension or imbalance
- Postural strain or prolonged desk work
- Movement dysfunction affecting the cervical spine
Rather than focusing only on head pain itself, we assess how your neck, upper spine, muscles, and nervous system are functioning together, and how this may be contributing to your headaches.
If chiropractic care is not the most appropriate option for your condition, you will be referred to the right healthcare professional — and there will be no charge for your consultation.
When should I seek help for headaches?
It’s a good idea to have your headaches assessed if:
- Headaches are persistent or worsening
- Symptoms are affecting work, sleep, or daily activities
- You experience frequent or recurring headaches
- Headaches are associated with neck pain or stiffness
- You’re unsure what is causing your headaches
Early assessment can often help prevent headaches from becoming more frequent or long-term.
Treatment approach
Care is tailored to your individual presentation and may include:
- Chiropractic adjustments
- Gentle manual techniques
- Muscle and soft tissue work
- Rehabilitation or postural exercises
- Movement and ergonomic advice
Our goal is to help improve function, comfort, and confidence in movement, not just provide short-term symptom relief.
Ongoing care and recovery
At your second visit, we will explain:
- What is contributing to your headaches
- What can be done to address it
- What results you can reasonably expect
- How long recovery is likely to take
You will receive a personalised schedule of care, along with exercises or recommendations to support long-term improvement.
Subsequent visits are typically shorter and focus on progressing your care plan.
Up to 10 minutes per visit.
